Raw bars / Burgers

img_0387RAW BARS
When me, my sister and my mum were in the train on our way to Rotterdam, we met a really nice girl. The reason we started chatting is because she was reading the same book as me (Vegan for Her). She was vegan too, lived in the Czech Republic and worked for a really cool vegan company called ‘Lifefood’. They sell are sorts of raw food. All ‘Lifefood’ products are raw, organic, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free and there is no added sugar. They sell very cool stuff, like raw sausages, superfood powders, raw crispbread, all sort of treats and lots more. You should really take a look at their img_0386website. The girl happened to carry around the Lifebars and she gave us 3 to try. So kind! The bars don’t only look very nice, but tey’re also delicious. She gave us the ‘Chocolate’, the ‘Brazil Guarana’ and the ‘Carob Hazelnut’. Especially the ‘Brazil Guarana’ was really yummy. Later when hotspot hunting in Rotterdam I found a coconut flavour in a health store called ‘Gimsel’. I really liked the coconut! I didn’t see them in any stores in the UK yet, but in case you can get your hands on them somewhere, I recommend trying them. You can always order them from their website. Though it can’t take long before a good brand like this is also available in stores around the UK.

img_0770BURGERS
When going for a nice burger these ones are really good. They have a nice texture and they taste great. They also taste amazing with some nice mash potato and some veggies on the side. I like these burgers because they taste quite neutral and they go with everything. They’re soy based, so they contain a lot of protein (18,2gr). What makes it very nice for people who go to the gym and want to get some extra protein into their bodies after a work out. Linda McCartney is not all vegan, because they also do some vegetarian things. Though they don’t only have vegan burgers. There is a whole range of vegan products. For all their vegan options you can go to their website. I also really like their sausages. A huge benefit of Linda McCartney sausages is that it’s available in most supermarkets, even some smaller ones. So for a quick meal you just throw them on a nice bun with some ketchup and yum!

Raw bars / Stock

rbRAW BARS
Originally the ‘Rawbite’ bars come from Denmark, but are now available in more than 30 different countries. When 3 guys met by chance (though they’re sure it was faith) they came up with the idea to create an honest and natural snack for on the go. They come in 8 different flavours: Protein, Spicy lime, Apple cinnamon, Raw cacao, Coconut, Vanilla berries, Cashew and Peanut. I tried them all except the Cashew. They’re all very nice and have a very nice structure. My favourites are ‘Apple Cinnamon’, ‘Coconut’ and ‘Peanut’. That is just really my thing. I mostly use them when I go to the gym as a pre or post work out snack. They work very well for that. The ‘Protein’ bar even has 20 gr of protein and they all give you a boost of energy.I also think it’s super handy to have in your bag for when you’re on the way and it’ll take a while before your next meal. What I really like is the colours and the simplicity of this product. You can get them in a lot of health shops/supermarkets like the ‘Whole Foods Market’ and ‘Portobello Wholefoods’. Check out their website for more information.

stockSTOCK
I sometimes like to use stock as it’s such an easy and quick way to make a sauce or soup. My favourite stock is the ‘yeast free vegetable’ and the ‘garlic and herb’ from Kallø. I like them so much because they are all natural, organic, gluten-free, they don’t add sugar or any other crap and their palm oil is responsibly sourced. I think the ‘yeast free vegetable’ is ideal for making any kind of soup and I like to use the ‘garlic and herb’ to make a yummy pasta sauce. Unfortunately not all supermarkets sell Kallø or they only have a few options (especially the ‘garlic and herb’ can be hard to find). I’m sure they have them in the ‘Whole Foods Market’ in High Street Kensington and sometimes you’re just lucky to bump into the right one. For more information you can visit their website, because Kallø also sells rice/corn cakes, cereals, breadsticks and gravies. PS: Don’t forget to check out the little poems which are written on the back of every product! + ..don’t they have a cool design?

London Farmers’ Markets

fm2There are quite some Farmers’ Markets in London. What is great, because it gives you the opportunity to buy directly from the farmer. All fruit and veggies come straight from the field into your fridge, how great is that?! A lot of Farmers’ Markets are also selling organic fruits and vegetables. You can check on the website if the Framers’ Market closest to you is selling any organic products.
What I really like about Farmers’ Markets is that they sell in season. What gives a lot of inspiration for all sorts of recipes every time you pay them a visit.

The closest Farmers’ Market for me is Queens Park and it’s a lovely one! I’m so lucky to have this so close by. They have lots of different fruit and veggie stands and also some organic ones. The Farmer’s Market are there every Sunday from 10:00-14:00. What means that between 10:00-11:00, after a lazy morning, I get my big bag and head to all those beautiful and colourful fruit and vegetables. It’s a lovely walk too as I have to go through Queens Park. I always get quite excited and have to hold myself back from buying every piece. I would struggle taking everything home and also I can’t eat it all by myself.

fmUnfortunately the Farmers’ Markets are not vegan. Not even vegetarian. They also sell meat, fish and other animal products. I personally really dislike that, especially if the smell is very strong. Luckily there are also some surprisingly nice vegan things to get. In my Queens Park Farmers’ Market there is a stand called ‘The Bow Belly’ and they sell a few delicious looking vegan treats. There is also a stand called ‘Popina’ and they sell veryyy tasty vegan rolls (in between a wrap and a lumpia), so big that you can easily eat one for lunch. There is also ‘Breadren’ and they also have some vegan options. I must say that both times I tried something of ‘Breadren’ it was a bit dry. Could be that I was just unlucky. I also really like all the bread stands with beautiful whole wheat and rye breads and so much more! For bread I always try to be early, because it’s not getting any fresher by standing outside the whole time. All stands are also on other markets and by clicking on their name you can find where they are on what day and time.

Do you like to go to Farmers’ Markets? What do you like to buy there? And are you mainly choosing organic produce? Please let me know or show me what you bought via Instagram by using #PlanetManel. Thank you! X

Cheese / Raw Chocolate

cheeseCHEESE
Everybody was talking about it: Sainsbury’s vegan cheese! Then there was even a whole hype that everybody started to call it ‘Gary’. I really wanted to try it too, but didn’t know what Sainsbury’s was selling it. Later it turned out they sell it at the big Sainsbury’s, so close to where I live. I was so lucky when I got there and they just refilled all the different kinds. So I chose: grated cheddar-style, cheddar-style, cheddar-style with caramelised onion, greek style, original soft cheese and the garlic&herb soft cheese. I couldn’t wait to try them. I must say I was skeptical as not a lot of vegan cheeses are very good, though a lot of people were so enthusiastic about these. So I tried them all and I actually like it. Quite a lot! The grated cheese and the cheddar-style are melting very nicely over a pasta and they are perfect to make grilled cheese sandwiches. There was not a really good cheese to make those with. I’m happy there is now. You have to make sure not to put too much cheese on it, as they melt almost too well. The soft cheeses are very tasty too, lovely on a cracker or a rice cake with some cucumber and black pepper on top. But if I have to choose I think the ‘greek style’ is definitely the best. It tastes like feta, it crumbles like feta and is amazing in salads. Because not all Sainsbury’s sell it, you can also order it via their website. Way to go Sainsbury’s!

pcRAW CHOCOLATE
My friend Pavla lived in Cornwall for a few months over the summer and when she came to London and stayed with me for a night she brought me this lovely raw chocolate they make right over there. It’s made by ‘The Raw Chocolate Pie company’ (that is a mouthful.. it’s a good thing it’s about chocolate) and they make raw chocolate which is dairy free, gluten free, soya free and it contains no refined sugar. She got me the peppermint one. I’m actually not a big fan of chocolate with a minty or citrus flavour, but I did want to try it and I loved that she brought it for me. It’s best kept in the fridge it say on the label, so when I tried a piece it was quite a firm texture. I really like the texture and you can taste that it’s raw. It’s nice and very filling (I only had a little piece), but I think in a different flavour it would be even better. They have a lot of flavours and you can find them all on their website. Later I also saw they sell a few at Portobello Wholefoods and I’m sure you can get them in other places too. Great chocolate and a lovely healthy snack.

Redemption

13836062_1196352000408901_596454710_oAlways when I took a certain bus I passed a very nice looking restaurant. I always thought it looked lovely, but I kind of assumed it was quite expensive and it wasn’t really for me. Until one day I did my research as I became too curious and what do you think? I was so so wrong! It turned out it’s all vegan, super healthy, alcohol-sugar-wheat free and minimum waste. Say whutt?? Yes! It was so my kind of restaurant! Omg.. it just sounds amazing doesn’t it? So I couldn’t wait to go there. The time I went was a very quiet time, what I always prefer. Having my lunch in peace. I chose the Tokyo salad, containing brown rice, avocado and seaweed. It was delicious!

13838197_1196352007075567_330317855_oThe location is amazing, what else can I say about it if it’s located in Notting Hill, only my favourite area in London. They do have a second location in Shoreditch, but so far I only went to the one in Notting Hill.
I also really like their interior. It’s neutral, but still elegant and they definitely created a nice atmosphere. I always thought it was really expensive, just by looking at it, but the prices are actually quite normal, especially if you look at all the goodness they serve and their amazing policy. It makes it worth every penny. It gives me such a good feeling that there are people in the world who care. I can’t describe it very well. It’s a combination: a feeling of pure happiness, satisfaction and hope.

13843652_1196351990408902_445662234_oI had a very nice conversation with one of the staff members and friendly staff is just a must. I had a really good time and I really enjoyed my yummy healthy salad! It’s a perfect restaurant to have a first date, meet your parents in law for the first time or for an important meeting.. you get what I mean, ‘those kind of things’!

They also have a catering service, what is amazing I think. It’s such a good way to make veganism and healthy food more popular. It’s a good way as it’s offered to a (big) group of people who maybe wouldn’t make this choice in the first place. I always think a catering business is a good idea. For more information about that you should take a look at their website.

13833012_1196352003742234_1028602907_oDid you hear about Redemption already? What do you think about this amazing restaurants? Are you going to try a meal there? Please let me know! RainBOWL

6They say ‘eat the rainbow’. Well, now you can. The more colours in a salad, the better I always think. I love cauliflower and I didn’t eat it for very long as it always gave me big tummy aches. I now know it can happen when you cook it for too long. In this salad I use raw cauliflower, what is super tasty and a lot less chance to have a tummy ache after. I never had a tummy ache from raw food anyway. What only teaches us how healthy and good it is for our bodies to eat raw. The whole salad is raw by the way and it’s very delicious. The flavours really improving each other and you feel so full of energy after eating it. Personally I like to eat raw salads for lunch, but of course you can enjoy the any time. Here is the recipe guys:

Portobello Wholefoods

13453153_1168470259863742_1385303805_oWhen I don’t feel like going all the way to the Whole Foods Market just for a few things there is this great other little shop, which is close to my work, where I can get most of the things I want. It’s a great shop, with a lot of vegan products. A lot of times I get my cheese there, my mayonnaise, some vegan treat and I can’t resist to get a space bar when I’m there.
It’s quite a tiny shop, but they did very well to fit in as much as possible. In the beginning bit there are some fresh vegetables and smoothies, then you have the crisps (with a very good sweet potato crisp!), a lot of chocolate, with Vego, but also some 13453222_1168470243197077_971796528_oraw bars and if you’re lucky they have some vegan snickers too, which are define! This is only the beginning, because then the section with vegan goodies (sausages, cheese, mayo, bars, yogurt etc.), plant based milk, juices, bread, biscuits and oats(you can get really big bags). They also have quite a nice selection of teas. Then there is sauces, pasta’s and rice + the babyfood. The last aisle is with nuts, dried fruit, peanut butter, chocolate spread agave nectar, soaps + personal hygiene and cleaning products. Oh and behind the till there are also supplements and all sorts of remedies they offer. These are just some main things, but they have a lot of surprising products you really don’t want to miss.

13441746_1168470249863743_113960727_o‘Portobello Wholefoods’ is 100% vegetarian and has a lot of organic products. They’re located on Portobello Road, literally under the Westway bridge. It’s easy to get to from Ladbroke Grove. If you keep walking under the Westway, it’ll be right in front of you. Even if you’re just strolling down Portobello road, it’s always nice to pop in. I’m sure you’ll walk outiside with something nice. They’re open every day from 9:30-18:00 and on Sundays from 11:00-5:00.

Do you know Portobello Wholefoods? Or are you curious now and are you going to visit this nice little health store? Please let me know by leaving a comment or by tagging me on Instagram. You can also use #PlanetManel, so I can see it. Thank you! X

Paradise Unbakery

1Very very very close to me there was this cafe called ‘Zest’. The funny thing is that you kind of ‘forget’ about the cafe’s which are very close to home. It feels like normal or I think ‘I can review whenever I want to’. But then it never happens. So it took a while until I went to Zest. I always saw these very nice salads when I walked past them. So one afternoon I decided to have lunch there so I can tell you guys about it. Then the owner had some AMAZING news. From the beginning of August they were gonna go 100% vegan!! I was jumping up and down (in my head), this was really good news. Very bad news for my bank account though.. haha! 3I decided not to review Zest and wait until it was all vegan. I had lunch anyway, which was very tasty. Luckily they were going to keep a lot of the lovely salads they already had.
I was so excited, but I happened to be gone for the whole of August, so I had to have a lot of patience. My sister, who stayed in my flat whilst I was gone, even went first. I was so jealous, as she send me pictures of amazing pancakes and cakes.
The first weekend I was back, my brother stayed with me and so I took him for brunch (we’re both a big fan of having a sleep in). As it was brunch, I ordered the waffles (my first vegan waffles ever) and my
brother ordered a yummy looking little bread with pulled jackfruit and a salad. Also we both got a smoothie. OMG.. with every bite I 4put in my mouth I was happier knowing this was so so so close to me. How lucky am I?! I really still cant believe it.

They used to have a quite dark interior. With black and orange, it suited the place. Though now it’s bright, minty, pink, fresh and beautiful! I could live there.. It looks so attractive. The owner and the staff are very friendly and helpful, something I so appreciate. The food is incredible. I’m planning to taste the whole menu, but the things I’ve tasted so far are just perfect. I really can’t think of anything what could be better. It’s such an amazing place! Another must go hotspot!

Spicy Crunch

13523655_1178672738843494_261602795_oThis raw salad has a bit of a spicy crunch, though it’s very fresh! Perfect for a lovely lunch on a summer day. The radishes and the turmeric, combined with the raw garlic give a nice little tingle on you tongue. Personally I love this salad, because it has such a rich taste, it’s filling, raw and super healthy. It’s also a perfect side dish salad. With lasagna, pizza or a burger and chips.. and what about a nice vegan barbeque? And I’m sure you can also think of a good reason to make this yummy salad! So start chopping and mixing and enjoy every bite..
