Newsletter DECEMBER

I’m sorry I’m sorry!! It’s the 10th of December today and so this newsletter is officially 10 days late! I’ve just had so many things to do and so working on my blog isn’t first priority at the moment. Apart from that, there is a wifi problem in the house and so I can not access the internet very well. Super annoying, but that’s why I went to the nearest Starbucks today, to do a bit of work. To keep you up to date and to let you know what’s on this month, here is the late December newsletter. And before I forget: a Merry Xmas to you!

Last month:

SOUTHAMPTON VEGAN FESTIVAL
As I was van viewing near Southampton this day I decided to quickly take a look at this festival. It was the first time they held it here and so I was curious. I’ve had a good time and there were quite some stalls. Some I knew already, but also some I didn’t see before and that is always fun. As it was lunchtime I had a burger from ‘Got No Beef’, what was super yummy. For dessert I tried the most amazing ice cream from ‘Ice Green’. I chose peanut butter and apple crumble and I enjoyed this so much, you have to try this if you ever get the chance! As a treat to take home I chose a chocolate salted caramel brownie from ‘Dark Matters’. My goodness, I did make yummy food choices that day. The downside of this festival, and I’m sure everyone who went agrees, it was way too dark everywhere and the floor was super sticky everywhere (even the carpet). I think a different venue is definitely a good idea, would they want to do this festival again.

VAN NEWS
Something else very exciting happened last month too. I got my van!! Yes! I found my perfect van, a Citroen Relay form 2014 and I picked it up the 25th of November. I’ve been working on it since, though I couldn’t do lots yet. I stripped and cleaned it so far. The new window and the skylight ventilator arrived now though and as soon as there is a dry day I will get that in (what is a bit scary). To stay tuned and updated about my van(life), please follow my instagram, as I post updates on my IGS regularly. Soon I will do a blogpost about my van too.

LUCKY OLIVER
Oliver is 7 weeks now and he is doing well (if you want to know more about Oliver and his rescue, please read his story here!). He will move to the barn somewhere in the up coming days. I’m a little anxious about this, but it’s time. He’s getting too big for his cage in my room. Of course he’s out whenever I’m off, but the 4 days I’m working he does spend a lot of hours in the cage. He really wants to move, run and jump around though. He needs more space!

Now what is on the rest of the December month:

16/12 – TAUNTON VEGAN FESTIVAL
There will be a small vegan festival in Taunton this Saturday. It will be held at the Wilton Church Hall (TA1 3JT) from 11:00-16:30. There will be a few stalls and some talks too. So if you’re around, please go and have a look. The entry is free.

22/12 – XMAS HOLIDAY
This day I will travel to my family in the Netherlands to celebrate Xmas and NY. I’m so excited! I will make a yummy Xmas dinner (that I will post here too) and it will be so much fun to see everyone and to give the presents I got them. Who else is traveling home for Xmas and NY this year? I will travel back the 1st of January, but even that is so exciting, because my mum will come with me to spend a week with me in my new house. What a lovely time I will have and it’s almost. I can’t wait though!

24-25/12 – XMAS!!
Yay for Xmas eve and day! Please tell me about all your Xmas plans!

26/12 – BOXING DAY
In the Netherlands we call this day second Xmas day and we actually celebrate it the same as the actual first day. Sometimes we choose just one, but most people celebrate both days with different people. Whoever is going shopping here in the UK instead, have fun!

31/12 NEW YEARS EVE
The last day of the year. What a crazy year it was for me. So much has happened, but I’m also super grateful for all the good it brought me. Who would have guessed I’d move to the country side, own a van and be a pig mum by now?! Also 2018 will be super exciting, finishing my van conversion, start living in it + travel around with it for the first time. Also I will rescue a dog and maybe another piglet. So many plans.. What was 2017 like for you and what are your plans for the new year?

RECIPE SPOILER

Newsletter NOVEMBER

I know it’s already the 3rd of November, what means this newsletter is 3 days late! I’m sorry! I have been so busy and with all the changes during and after my move I just didn’t spend much time on my blog. I better start writing and working, because Sunday it’s only 7 weeks until Christmas and before we all know it, it’s 2018. I can’t believe how fast time is going. But first we have November. November is always a quiet month for me. I don’t have any traveling planned, because I always travel to the Netherlands in December. Now let’s see what’s on in December. Oh and because I’m not London based anymore, I decided to include some vegan events from all over the UK.

Let’s look back on some things from last month first..

I MOVED!
First of all, I moved! It was rather hectic and a lot of things to get used to, but I’m out of London for 2 weeks now and it’s going very well. I love being in nature and there are pigs very close to me (5 min walk.. I can see them from my window). Soon I will write a personal blog again, to tell you about my life in the country side.

VEGFESTUK 2017
Who went to the VegFestUK? For me it was the weekend I moved and unfortunately I couldn’t make it because of that, but I’m sure many of you did go. Tell me about it!

HALLOWEEN
How was your Halloween? ..and who made Yummy Mummy?

4-5/11 – SOUTHAMPTON VEGAN FESTIVAL
I know, because this newsletter is a little late, this is a bit short day. Though, if you don’t have anything planned yet for this weekend, why not go here? Funny enough I will be viewing vans (first viewings, yay!!) very close to Southampton tomorrow (4), so I’m thinking of going here myself. Who do I see there? It’ll be from 10:30-16:00 and the tickets on the door are only £5. It is held at Oceana (SO15 1RE).

11-12/11 – VON MANCHESTER VEGAN FEST
It’s from 10:00-17:00, being held at the Britannia Sachas Hotel (M1 1JG). Lot of stalls, talks and cookery demos. So for everybody living a bit more up north, this sounds nice. Who’s going?

18/11 – ANIMAL AID’S SOUTH WEST CHRISTMAS WITHOUT CRUELTY FESTIVAL
This sounds like a lot of fun. A cruelty free Christmas Festival! It’s held at the Exeter Corn Exchange (EX1 1BW). It’s a beautiful area btw, so why not make it a weekend? The festival is from 10:00 – 16.30 and it’s free entry. There will be stalls, food, (children’s) games, talks and more. So for some cruelty free Xmas shopping, this sounds like the place to be!

19/11 – EDINBURGH VEGAN FESTIVAL
It’s the 3rd time running, the Edinburgh Vegan Festival. Held at the The Roxburghe Hotel (EH2 4HQ), from 10:30 – 16:30. For only £3 (£2 if you book in advance) you can enjoy the vegan products, food, talks and lots more.

24/11 – NORWICH VEGAN CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL
Also for the 3rd time, another vegan Christmas vegan festival, yay! This time on the other side of the UK, in Norwich. It’s held at Open Norwich, form 10:00-16:00. There will be more than 50 stalls, with vegan goodies and food. Christmas shopping success guaranteed! And guess what, it’s free entry.

25/11 – VEVOLUTION FESTIVAL
I assume you all know what are TED-talks? What about only vegans were doing these TED-talks? This is where the Vevolution festival is about! I think it sounds super interesting. If you agree, then make sure you are at The Ri (W1S 4BS) in London at 9:00 (it’s finished at 18:00).

26/11 – LEEDS WINTERFEST VEGAN CHRISTMAS MARKET
And if you’re still not in the mood for Christmas after all of this, there is a 3rd (huge) vegan Christmas festival, in Leeds this time. Held at the Leeds Town Hall (LS1 3AD) from 11:00-17:00. There will be 150+ stalls, vegan food and everything you expect from a good festival. This all for only £3. The festival is fully volunteer ran, so all of this will go to animal welfare charities.

26/11 – THE BRIGHTON VEGAN FESTIVAL
There can never be too many vegan festivals in Brighton. It seems like they have a vegan festival every month. Great! This will be held at the Grand Hotel Brighton and has over 100 stalls. It’s from 10:30-17:00 and the entry is only £3. A trip to Brighton is always fun anyway. Anyone going?

Newsletter SEPTEMBER

It’s still quite lovely weather, but September means it’s really the end of the summer. So enjoy the last warm sun ray this month and do fun things!

01/09 – EARTHLINGS EXPERIENCE
The Earthlings Experience is activism. I like this sort of activism as it’s quite effective. The only thing you have to do is hold your laptop whilst it plays the documentary Earthlings. You will wear a mask to put all the attention to your laptop. The London Earthlings Experience will be held outside the Burger King in Leicester Square at 18:30. You can purchase a mask from this website if you want to join and get more information.

02/09 – EARTHLINGS EXPERIENCE
Same place, same time as above (September 1st)!

02/09 – OFFICIAL ANIMAL RIGHTS MARCH
In 2016 was the first march for animals. Around 2500 vegans marched for the rights of animals.. let that be more this year! It will be from 12:00-16:00. The meeting point is the Achilles Statue, located in Hyde Park, London W1J 7NT (near the London Hilton on Park Lane). Then after a little break you could also join the Earthling Experience at Leicester Square. That is an activism day done well!

08-15/09 – WALES HOLIDAY
I will be going to Wales this week. It will be a working holiday and I’m not sure how much time I will have to myself, but I will try to find some vegan hotspots! I do promise to take some lovely pictures though. Any recommendations?

14/09 – IRISH VEGAN FESTIVAL
Do you happen to be in or around Belfast this weekend? On Saturday the 14th there will be an Irish vegan festival in Belfast (Waterfront Centre, 2 Lanyon Place, BT1 3WH). Just saying.. Buy your £3 tickets here!

16/09 – HACKNEY DOWNS VEGAN MARKET
There will be a lovely vegan market in Hackney again, like every month. There are such lovely stalls and you will be pleased to choose from a wide range of great tasting food. It’s from 11:00-17:00 and the entry is free. I went last month and it was crazy busy, but so nice! I will probably go again this month. I now want to try all the food there! Do I see you there?

RECIPE SPOILER
Do you have something to celebrate? Here is a lovely little recipe for if you are just as nuts about coconuts as I am! Look out for this ‘CocoNuts’ recipe!

Newsletter AUGUST

August! The last month without an -r. I like August, because it can still be a very hot month, though it has been raining quite a lot lately. What, I think, is amazing with these nice temperatures of 20C+, because it’s so refreshing and the rain feels so nice. Now let’s review the last month and see what is on in August.

GLASGOW ROADTRIP – REVIEW
If you read my travel article about Glasgow, then you already know that I’ve had an amazing time over there. Glasgow is a city with lots of vegan cafes and restaurants and everybody seems to accept it there more. I found some really good hotspots and I shared it with you in the post. So please check it out, especially if you want to go here soon or already booked your trip.

BEN & JERRY ICE CREAM
It’s official! Ben&Jerry will bring their vegan ice creams to the UK! It’s truly the moment everybody has been waiting for. I think everybody is excited to try this. I think this is such a good thing as it’s such a famous ice cream brand. It will definitely send a message into the world. I’m excited to try for sure!

VIO LIFE HALLOUMI CHEESE
Vio Life came with a new cheese: Halloumi. I’m super excited to try this. So you can expect to read a review soon. Did somebody try it yet?

10-13/08 – RAW FEST
There is a raw vegan festival near Ascot (less than an hour outside London) this August. This festal is only running since 2012. It’s all about raw (organic) food, education, talks, workshops and yoga classes. Smoking, alcohol and fast food are not allowed. It’s all about health and nutrition and it’s a 100% vegan. Day tickets are £15, but you can also stay over and camp there, so you can stay for the whole weekend. The camping tickets are £80 and you can get all sorts of tickets here. This is something you do not want to miss when you are into raw food or if you want more information about it. I’m thinking about going myself too.

12/08 – STOKE NEWINGTON VEGAN MARKET
A brand new vegan market! This will be the first time this market is on. There will be lots of yummy food from different caterers, vegan goodies, cosmetics and more. The market is from 10:00-16:00 at Abney Public Hall. There is a suggested £3 at the door, or whatever you can afford. All this donated money will go to a local animal charity called ‘Stokey Cats and Dogs’ (a charity that is rehoming cats and dogs). So do you want to be the first one to visit this market, go check it out on Saturday the 12th of August.

18-19/08 – LIVIN ON THE VEG
There will be 8 traders battling for the Kerb Golden Carrot. These 8 traders are: Biff’s Jack Shack, Petare, Lemlem Kitchen, Eat Chay, Spice Box, Temple of Seitan, Greedy Khao and Young vegans. It will be held at the West Handyside Canopy (King’s Cross). Get your tickets here. Sounds like lots of fun to me!

19/08 – HACKNEY DOWNS VEGAN MARKET
There will be a lovely vegan market in Hackney again, like every month. There are so many lovely stalls and you will be pleased to choose form a wide range of great tasting food. It’s from 11:00-17:00 and the entry is free. I probably go myself this Saturday! Do I see you there?

Newsletter JULY

We’re halfway the year of 2017.. gosh time flies! It looks like each year is going faster. We’ve had some lovely sunny days in June and even though it was very hot sometimes, it was great. Today we will review the Brighton Vegan Fest and I will tell you what’s coming up this month. Here we go..

BRIGHTON VEGAN FEST – REVIEW
It was a beautiful day to go to the Brighton Vegan Fest. The sun was shining, a few clouds.. the perfect temperature! I’ve had some yummy food during the day, Phish and Chips from the Loving Hut, frozen yogurt from FroYo, a samosa and a burger! I wish I had more stomachs, cuz there was much more yummy food to try. I bought another jar of iUVO cream and brought some cake home. After that I went to the sea side to enjoy the waves. What a perfect day! Did you go and did you have a good time as well? What did you eat?

8-9/07 – GLASGOW
I’m going on a solo road trip to Glasgow this weekend. I have to drive the Landrover Discovery (my favourite car ever!) of my former employer to the Glasgow airport and as I’m there anyway, I will have about 24 hours in Glasgow, because I will fly back in the evening the next day. I’m very excited for this as I’ve heard lots of good things about this vegan friendly city. I will visit lots of vegan hotspot and make sure to write about it. Stay tuned! PS: you can also follow my trip on Instagram!

7-9/07 – JUST V SHOW
An event for everybody who is vegan, vegetarian or who’s interested in eating less animal products. This is a great event, in London Olympia, to gain more knowledge about a plant based and cruelty free lifestyle, eat yummy food and to explore loads of cruelty free products. It’s 3 days from 10:00-17:00. I will try to go as well, but as I’m going to Glasgow that weekend and I have a birthday party to go to that day, I’m not sure if it’s going to work out for me. If you can go, go! Go to the website to see what’s on and get your (free) tickets here!

15/07 – VEGAN BEER FEST
If you’re really into beer, then you do not want to miss this. It’s the biggest Beer Fest in the London. Lots of 100% vegan beer (and wine) to try, together with other drinks and some food stalls too. So, bring your friends and have a lovely Saturday at the Hackney Down Studios (17 Amhurst Terrace). It’s starting at 12:15 and if you like to go, make sure you get your £5 tickets here. Because of this festival there will be no Hackney Downs Market this month.

22/07 – HORLEY VEGAN FAYRE
From 10:00-17:00 there will be a lovely fair at the Meath Green Junior School (Greenfields Road. Horley). There will be yummy vegan food, inspring talks and fun children activities. Fun for the whole family!

23/07 – VEGAN DOG FOOD INFO + BRUNCH
Your dog can be vegan too! Learn all about how your dog can live happily and healthy on a vegan diet. And all whilst enjoying brunch. The venue is vegetarian, but serves vegan options too. You can even bring your dog if you like, though he/she does have to behave well on the leash. It sounds super interesting and educational to me. If you have a dog and you want to learn more about this subject, this is a great thing to attend! It will be held from 12:00-14:00 in the Jaz and Juls Chocolate House (1 Chapel Market).

28/07-04-08 – MALLORCA
This week I will fly to Mallorca for work and of course I will try to find some vegan hotspots around and tell you all about this beautiful island and the things I did.

Newsletter MAY

Finally! The -r is out of the month! There were very lovely sunny days in April, but also very cold days.. like we’re used to from this month. But now May started, warmer days are coming a bit more often and more frequently (hopefully.. cuz let’s remember, it’s still the UK!). There will be baby animals everywhere and most trees are all green now. Yay for May!

VEGGIE WORLD – REVIEW
On Saturday the 8th of April I went to Veggie World and that was a big success. I did expect it to be a little bigger though, but there were lovely stalls and good food. I bought a new day/night cream from iUVO and I absolutely love it. I will write a review about it soon. This weekend 2 friends came over from the Netherlands and they came with me. I shared a Dutch Weedburger with one of them. A burger made out of Dutch seaweed. I knew about its existence, because I’ve seen it from some Dutch bloggers. You can’t get them in London yet, but I really hope they will come soon, because it was super delicious! I also handed out more than 250 leaflets in the most lovely sunshine. I’ve got some very nice reactions and it was lovely to meet so many people who are passionate about the same thing!

EASTER REVIEW

24/05 – 27/05 – CITYTRIP ROME
Yay! I’m going to Rome! I always wanted to go to Rome, as I hear from everyone that it’s such an amazing city. Rome is also the first destination of Elizabeth Gilbert’s ‘Eat Pray Love’ adventure and as that is my favourite book and movie, I must admit that this gives me some extra excitement! When I was in Paris, I said to myself I’d go to Rome next, so I kept my word and booked my tickets. Ohh and guess what.. Steven is coming with me! How romantic.. we will look for nice vegan friendly hotspots and I’ll, of course, write about our adventures. I can’t wait!

Newsletter APRIL

Yes, it’s already April! The last month with an -r in the month, but the sun is shining a lot more often. There are flowers everywhere, the birds are building their nests and the first baby animals are born. Yay!

UPDATE BANANA ISLAND
In last month’s newsletter I announced I would be on Banana Island from 20-26 of March. This means I only ate bananas (and a little greens) that week. I can now tell you that in total I ate 140 bananas and guess what.. I still like bananas! What did I experience during my time on Banana Island? On the 10th of April there will be a post about everything around Banana Island. I’ll tell you exactly how it went, what happened, what I experienced, if I found it helpful, if I would do it again and what happened after coming back from the island. So stay tuned!

01/04: WINNER GIVEAWAY!
Last night at 00:00 the Anniversary-giveaway ended. I want to thank everybody who entered, but I can only let 1 person win. To make it fair I used a generator (as shown in InstaStories). The winner of the Giveaway is: Sassyvegan. Congratulations!!

01/04: APRILS FOOLS DAY
Personally I’m not a big fan of April’s Fools day, but you might want to prank somebody with Foolish Chocolate Mouse. A yummy recipe, especially for this day. Have fun!

02/04: BRIXTON SPRING VEGAN FESTIVAL
Nothing planned for you Sunday afternoon yet? Then go to the Brixton vegan festival, between 12:00 – 19:00. A lovely beginning for spring. You can expect International Street Food, Eco Friendly Gifts, Alkaline & Raw Delights and some great Talks and Art Workshops. This all for only a £1 pound entrance!

08/04 – 09/04: VEGGIE WORLD
I am super excited for Veggie World as it’s one of the biggest and one of the oldest vegan festivals there is. You can expect a lot of stalls with food, fashion, beauty and a lot more andddd.. all vegan! There will be talks, cooking demo’s from plant based chefs, activities for children, animal yoga and do you want to start a business? There will also be some useful information for vegan entrepreneurs. Did you get your ticket? You pay £2 less if you pre order your ticket. So make sure you have your ticket and I hope to see you there!

14/04: GOOD FRIDAY
What have you planned for this day off? Just an idea.. you could start with some raw pancakes at Nama or make a big breakfast yourself. Make it pamper day and get yourself a lovely bath bomb from Lush. Or.. if the weather is good, go for a day trip. For the people in London.. what about Brighton?! Looking for beautiful stones, beach walks, feel the wind blowing through your hair and have vegan pizza at Purezza. It’ll be refreshing and so much fun!

16/04 – 17-04: EASTER
Are you doing an egg hunt? Then you’re in need of vegan chocolate eggs. In my experience it’s quite tricky to get small chocolate eggs. Most of them are big. Super delicious, but a little much and expensive to get a lot of them. I did some research and found these mini eggs from Montezuma’s on amazon. I think they’re perfect. Click here to order them. You pay £8,69 for 9 eggs, but it’s free delivery! To make it less expensive, but more fun, you can also make some eggs of pastel coloured paper. You could write a nice message or quote on each of them or a question and make it into a quiz. It’s not about how many kg’s of chocolate you collect (or is it? Hehe..), it’s about the fun you have! Cruelty free fun!
I’m in Holland with Easter, to make and enjoy a good brunch. Are you going to make or go to an Easter brunch too? Take a look at my easter recipes: Stuffed Green Eggs and Hopping Bread.

22/4: EARTH DAY
Earth Day is a worldwide annual event. Events are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Let’s all post something on our Facebook or Instagram what support Earth Day! Tell people about their carbon footprint if they’re not vegan.. Let’s spread the word!

27/4: KING’S DAY IN HOLLAND
On the 27th of April it’s King’s Day in Holland, a national holiday, in honer of King Willem-Alexander. Everything in Holland will be orange and there are a lot of activities (like children flee markets all around the country. The biggest party is in Amsterdam though. This attracts a lot of people all around the world!

Newsletter MARCH

Every new month I will write a newsletter. March has already started, so that is why it’s published today. From now on you can expect a newsletter every 1st of the month. I will write about anything new around PlanetManel, future plans, activities/festivals, new products, recipes and hotspots. I hope you will like it and you will find it helpful.

12/03: ANNIVERSARY
On the 12th Planet Manel celebrated its first anniverary! A year ago I started my blog and I’m very pleased that I’m still happily typing away. I love having my blog. Now veganism is so upcoming I’m happy that I’m able to help spread the word. It’s so imporatnt that we all educate the people around us. That’s why I’m so grateful for all my followers. I want to thank you all, because without you it isn’t much fun!
You also might have noticed that the website looks a little different. It was time for new pictures and some improvements. I made the topics more simple and I hope this helps you to find things more easily.
To really celebrate, I organised a lovely giveaway. Click here if you want to see what is there to win and how to enter. I hope you will!

20/03: SPRING
The day we’ve all been waiting for. Spring is officially starting today! Spring is one of my favourite seasons. The first warm sun rays, the flowers, the blossoms, the baby animals.. instant mood-lift!

20/03: BANANA ISLAND
Next week (20-26 of March), the first day of spring, I will be on Banana Island. For the people who don’t know what that means: it’s not a real island (unfortunately), but it means that you only eat bananas(20+). It’s a detox. You can do this for just 1 day or even for a month if you like, but I will be doing it for a week. It’s like a reset for your body. Your body only needs to digest bananas, what means very little energy will go to your digestive system. This left over energy will go to other things in your body, so it can heal. I never did this before and I’m very excited to notice the benefits. Some of the benefits are: clearer skin, clearing digestive system, more energy, the difference between emotional eating and real hunger, improves sleep. I will keep a journal and makes notes about all the changes I experience.
Does this sounds like something you would like to do to? Let’s do it together! Send me a message if you’re interested or if you want more information about this subject.

23/03: RAW-TALK
If you’re interested in Raw food, you might like to go to one of the Raw-talks from Paradise Unbakery. The next Raw-talk is on Thursday the 23rd of

26/03: MOTHERS DAY
Don’t forget! It’s Mother’s Day soon! Are you well prepared and do you already have something for your mum? What is better than an old fashion breakfast in bed, with a modern twist?! What do you think of ‘Chia Loves Oaty’, with some lovely eatable flowers on top? ..or enjoy a Middle Eastern breakfast together with ‘Azka Ftour’! Of course you can also always give her some nice chocolates, every mum loves that! My favourite chocolate to give away: Booja Booja!

27/03: SOCIAL GATHERING VANTRA VITAO
Do you like to have an evening with like minded people? Then you should go to Vantra Vitao on the 27th of March. I’m sure there will be a lovely atmosphere and lots of good food (minimum spend: £12). You’re welcome from 19:00-22:00. Vantra Vitao is one of my favourite vegan restaurants for sure, so I’m quite sure you’ll not regret it.
