Ice cream / Prawns

ICE CREAM
You might have already tried them or know they are on the market. The Alpro ice creams! They have 3 flavours: coconut, vanilla and hazelnut chocolate. I would really like to try the coconut too, but I went for the hazelnut chocolate, because chocolate ice cream is always the best. I must say they are really nice. It’s not like the best I’ve ever had or something, but it’s decent ice cream you will definitely enjoy for sure. Chocolate with a hint of hazelnut = Yum! Apart from this, I think it’s amazing that Alpro came with an ice cream. The more vegan products there are available, the more likely that more people will become vegan. A lot of (the bigger) supermarkets sell them now.

PRAWNS
Not real ones obviously, but the prawns from Fry’s. For me one of the best brands there is, so I needed to try their prawns too. One of my favourite foods used to be gamba’s. Now I can’t even imagine peeling them and putting them in my mouth though. It makes me feel horrified. I wanted to give these Fry’s ‘prawns’ a chance though. I made a little sauce with it (very simple: I mix up 2 tbs of mayonnaise and 1 tsp of ketchup.. this is the best!) and fried the ‘prawns’ in a pan. I served them with the sauce and some sliced gherkins. They were very nice! The inside is soft, but a little chewy and the batter you can make very crispy when frying them in some oil. They don’t actually have a very strong sea food taste, but even though, they are tasty. Perfect party food I would say too. Put some skewers next to them and it will make your guests happy. Fry’s have such good products. I get them from Ocado or from Holland&Barret.

Dusters / Veggie Mince

DUSTERS 
I always review a lot of food or beauty products, but this is the first time I review something to help you in the household. I hope you will find this helpful. My flat is very dusty. It has wooden floors and I have to dust a lot. I used to do this with a damp cloth, but the dust falls off and I was just replacing the dust instead of taking it away. So when I was in the Whole Foods Market I saw these and I thought I’d give it a go. They’re vegan, cruelty free and made out of recycled material. If a product has this all, I’m quite excited to buy it. I’m so happy that I did! It works really well. The dust sticks to it and you can use 1 duster several times. It makes my life so much easier.

VEGGIE MINCE
I was going to make a taco feast recipe at work and I got all the ingredients, but silly me, I forgot the veggie mince. Luckily I was going to a playgroup that day, close to the Portobello Wholefoods and I was hoping really hard they had some. They luckily did, from Fry’s. A brand I really like. I was so happy to have found it. I never had this one before, but I was very impressed. A lot of veggie mince I find a bit tasteless and dry. This one has a lot of taste and is not dry at all. The taco’s turned out really well, but I’m sure this will also be amazing in a lasagna or any pasta sauce. Such a good taste (what you expect form Fry’s), that this will be a very good product if you’re transitioning or when you have to cook for meat eaters. Definitely give this a try! It comes with gravy sauce, what I obviously didn’t need for taco’s, so I didn’t taste it, but I never saw this before and I thought it was very cool.

Pepper steak style Pies / Green Curry Paste

In my opinion, Fry’s is one of the best vegan junk food brands. I really really love their burgers, which I might review later. This time I tried something I never tried before, but what looked nice. The ‘pepper steak style pies’. I love things with pastry, I love pepper and so all together I had quite high expectations. I put them in the oven and let them cool down slightly, not to burn my mouth in all my enthusiasm. The pastry is nice and though I did like the filling too, I wasn’t blown away by it. It was very img_2861peppery and the ‘steak’ structure was nice, it just wasn’t very special in my opinion. I also think I missed having veggies in there, becuase normally I would put veggies in myself. So served with a nice salad, I might like them better. Then they’re a nice quick meal actually. img_3071GREEN CURRY PASTE
One of my favourite foods is green curry with rice. With lots of yummy veggies. There are a lot of curry pastes out there. Unfortunately a lot contain dairy or fish sauce. Luckily there is Thai Taste. They don’t believe in putting silly things in their curry paste. So quite often I fry some veggies (baby corn, broccoli, bell pepper, spring onion and red onion) in a big pan, empty a can of my favourite coconut milk in there and add a big scoop of the curry paste. I let it simmer for about 5 minutes and serve it with rice. It’s so quick and easy! Thai Taste sells the curry paste in a bag, what contains about 10-12 servings, what means you can make a lot of curry dishes with that. I also sometimes just add a little in other sauces or veggies. The taste is great and very important.. it doesn’t contain any crap! No sugar or E-numbers, just herbs and spices. Check out their ingredients on their website.
