Magic Tea

An extra recipe this week! Tomorrow my ultimate banana bread recipe will come online, but I wanted to add this one as well, as I already made my first few cups of this and I noticed that people around me are in need of this recipe (I’m not ill or anything, but I started to drink this to prevent this from happening). I thought this recipe was on my blog already, but I was very wrong. I gave this recipe to so many people in the past and I often use it myself. Especially in the colder seasons, which is now. You have probably noticed the (weather) change as soon as autumn started. Rain and moisture in the air.. people are putting their heatings back on (including me! A few times now I was super happy that I’ve got a little heater in my van), spreading germs everywhere.. the perfect recipe for getting a cold and the flu! This needs a counter-recipe and that is exactly what this is. I swear this recipe works. It’s simple, but it saved me so many times and the many people I shared it with benefitted as well. This isn’t only good for when you feel under the weather by the way, but it’s also a great way to prevent getting ill. I hope it will work for you as well!

Serves: 1

1,5 cup water
1 tbs (loose) green tea leaves
1/2 lemon (juice)
1 tbs fresh ginger (grated)
1 tsp fresh turmeric (grated, optional)
1-2 tsp agave nectar (optional)
Lots of Love

-Add love to all the following steps:
-Boil the water and let is sit until it’s about 80C (takes about 3-5 min).
-Put the green tea leaves in the water and let it steep for 3-4 minutes.
-Add the lemon juice, ginger, turmeric and the agave nectar and let it steep for 2 minutes.
-Drink 3-4 cups a day or 1 cup daily when used as a prevention.
-Aim to eat the ginger/turmeric as well.
-Within 20 minutes you will already feel a difference.

Obviously I am not a doctor, but I created this recipe by experience and it has worked many times for me. I hope it will work for you as well! I’d love to hear if it made a difference for you! You can do this down below, tag me on Instagram or by using #planetmanel. Thank you! X

About Sprout

Remember the recipe ‘Stamp-Pot‘? A great dish for this cold winter weather and that’s why.. Here is another stamppot recipe! This time with brussels sprouts, sage and with ‘rookworst’ (it’s a Dutch sausage: smoked sausage) from the Vegetarsiche Slager (Vegetarian Butcher). This one is soooo good. I even find it much better than the original rookworst, because the taste and structure are the same, but it doesn’t have all the fat dripping out (also, it doesn’t have any mashed up animals in it, which is a big pre!). Unfortunately, they don’t sell this in the UK (yet?), but you can use any other plant-based sausage to substitute it. Preferably sausages with a smoky flavour. I loveeee brussels sprouts, but even people who aren’t a big fan of this least liked vegetable, do often like this recipe. So give it a try!

Serves: 2

2 rookworsten (or any other sausage)
500 gr potatoes (chopped)
300 gr brussels sprouts (halved)
1 red onion (chopped)
1/2 avocado (smashed)
3 cloves of garlic
4 big sage leaves (chopped)
splash of oat milk
1 tbs olive oil
salt/pepper (to taste)

-Preheat the oven at 220C.
-Put the chopped potatoes, the brussels sprouts, the onion and the garlic in an oven dish. -Divide the olive oil over it and mix it all up. Then put it in the oven for about 30 min or until soft.
-In the meantime, heat up the rookworst (or any other sausage) the way it’s described on the packet.
-Take the dish out of the oven and mash it all together, together with a big splash of oat milk and the avocado.
-Add salt and pepper to taste.

Do you know what is a ‘rookworst’? Did you ever try the original one or did you even try this vegan version? I would love to know if you liked it and what you think about this stamppot recipe. I think it’s a great combination! Please leave a comment below or contact me on Instagram. Whenever you make one of my recipes, please tag me or use #planetmanel and I will give you a shoutout! Cough Remedy

7When it’s Autumn and Winter is on it’s way people start to get colds. I always get really annoyed when people think it’s because of the cold outside. Having a cold and a cough comes from a virus. Being outside in the cold is actaully beneficial, especially for preventing them. The reason that people start having colds and coughs when it’s getting colder ouside is becuase the heatings will be turned on. The dry air and warmth it gives is unhealthy and it’s possible for viruses to spread quickly. People are taking the bus and tube more and then only one person has to sneeze and the people around that person are doomed. Unless you have a very good immune system (like most vegans, yay!). The ‘Cough Rememdy’ recipe is not only helpful when you already have a cough, but it’ll also give your immune system a boost and you will be more likely to prevent it.

8Serves: 1

1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup agave nectar
1/4 cup water
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 lemon (juice)
2 cm fresh ginger
2 cm fresh turmeric

-Put all the ingredients in the blender until smooth.
-You can also grate the ginger and turmeric and mix everything very well. You will get the consistency as shown in the pictures.
-Take 1 tbsp 4 times a day.
-You can keep it in the fridge for about 3 days.
NOTE: if the symptoms don’t go away, do not improve at all or they are even getting worse within a week I think it’s wise to seek some medical attention.

I’m not a big fan of doctors, for many reasons, but one of them is because I think it’s always much better to let your body make itself better. You will build up your immune system this way and you are less likely to get ill next time.

Are you somebody who has a cold/cough very fast and do you want to try to prevent it? Do you already have a cold/cough and are you going to try this recipe to make it better? Please let me know your experiences! You can let me know in a comment below or you can show me on Instagram by using #PlanetManel. Thank you! X
