Tibits

Apparently I didn’t now about one really nice restaurant, called Tibits. No idea how I didn’t know about it, but I’m happy I do now. When my best friend Nienke, from the Netherlands, was visiting me, I thought it will be nice to go here and explore it together. I knew it was a buffet and so this way it would be a great way to try lots of different things. It was Nienke’s first time in London, so after a long morning of showing her all the touristy must see places, we went to Tibits for lunch. We always have so much fun together, but we made sure that this lunch was one to never ever forget.

So like I said, it’s a buffet. They have lots of nice food and though it’s a vegetarian restaurant, almost everything is vegan. Just make sure to check to be sure. They have many different options and they look all very yummy. I think I made sure I tried everything that was vegan. I just got a little bit of everything. When collecting our lunch we were already drooling over the sticky toffee dessert we saw, but we decided to first eat the food on our plate. At Tibits you pay by weight, the same as in Ethos. So after you get what you want, you go to the till, they weigh the food on your plate and that’s what you pay for. I think they have more reasonable prices than Ethos though. Also, after eating everything, I can say that the food is better than at Ethos too. The food was delicious actually. Then we wanted to have that sticky toffee pudding, but the problem was that all the cakes they sell separately, are vegan too. So first we chose 3. A cake each and 1 to share. But then we couldn’t choose which one.. because they have chocolate-pear, lemon, coconut-mango and apple pastry.. how can you choose? I don’t know how other people do it, because you can’t! So we ended up buying all options! Oops! Everybody was looking at us and we had tears of laughing rolling down our cheeks. Some people said they will do it too next time. The influencers we are! They were so delicious, but funny enough, the sticky toffee cake ended up being my favourite one. The chocolate one was ver nice too, as it wasn’t crazy sweet and you could actually taste the chocolate. We obviously couldn’t eat everything, but the staff was friendly enough to give us a doggy bag. Hurray for desserts!

Tibits is a beautiful restaurant, in a lovely little street. It’s just off Regent Street, close to Piccadilly Circus. It’s quite a big restaurant, with seats around the buffet area, but you can also go downstairs. They’ve done a lovely job with the interior, mixing up different styles, but creating one lovely atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and helpful and it just makes it a perfect place to have lunch or dinner (or to try desserts) when in central London. Make sure to try the sticky toffee cake though, you pay this one by weight too. I’ll be back for sure.

Tai Buffet

img_8242I lived in Shepherds Bush for 1,5 year. Great place to live. Near Westfield and great transport into central London. A lot of weekend you could find me in Westfield or in West 12, what is on the opposite of the road. I always walked past Thai Buffet, or I saw it from the bus. It said ‘Lunch £5,90’ and ‘Dinner £6,90’. They serve Thai and Chinese vegetarian food. I always thought, ‘I should go there’. I like buffets, I like Thai food and it’s SO cheap! Only, because it was cheap and it also looked cheap I never bothered to go. I never was too keen on the idea and mostly went to Wagamama instead. Until last year, when my brother came and stayed at my place for a few days. He is really into buffets too and as it’s vegetarian, I was positive they had some vegan options too. That’s why I decided to go with him.

img_8240Ok, it’s not the place I would take my lover on Valentines Day, but it’s perfect for a hungry Saturday afternoon. Like me and my brother. I asked the lady what was vegan and I couldn’t believe my ears when she said that everything is vegan! What?! Why didn’t I go here before?! The food looked delicious and I couldn’t wait to start. I was so excited. We ordered a drink and we ran to the buffet, haha! With buffets I always like to start with salads. Just because your body will digest it easier, starting with raws. After that I was very happy to dig in the img_8243seitan, tofu and spring rolls.. gosh it was nice! When I was full I really wished I had another stomach to fill. They even had crispy duck style pieces and a lot of rice, noodles and lots of veggies. I really liked all the food and there are quite a lot of options for a small restaurant like this. Everything is very tasty, but I wasn’t crazy about the dessert though. It was just fruit, nuts and some tapioca pudding. They could have done a lot better I think. Maybe it’s just the Thai and Chinese kitchen that don’t give a lot of vegan style dessert option. All together I think it’s great value for money though!

img_8241So like I said before, it’s not a place you’re going to, to have a romantic dinner. But with all the food options, you don’t really care about the interior that much. It’s alright. Something I didn’t like that much is the staff. They were friendly, but not very focused on service. I know it’s a buffet and it’s all self-service, but it’s just nice if you feel very welcome. Overall, I was very pleased that I went and I’m sure I’ll come back here. Especially when my family is over here. My brother liked it a lot too and I’m sure the rest of my family will as well.

WHO? Tai Buffet.
WHERE? 86 Uxbridge Rd, W12 8LR.
CUISINE? Thai/Chinese.
VEGAN? Yes!
OVERALL? 7 (tasty food, great value for money, dessert and service could be better)

222 Veggie Vegan

13442091_1168470273197074_1977111612_oFor many people ‘buffet’ is an exciting word. Eat what you want and eat as much as you can for one price is just nice. Even though in the end you always eat too much and you wish you didin’t. But it’s not keeping us from doing it again. Funny how the human brain works. Haha! In a buffet there is mostly always something vegan to find, but what if I tell you there is a buffet in London, which is only vegan? Yes! I also got quite excited when I found out. It’s in South Kensington and it’s called 222 Veggie Vegan. They are there already since 2004 and use fresh, non-GM and organic (where possible) ingredients. Sounds amazing, doens’t it? So I went to see and taste it for myself.

13453005_1168470299863738_117760815_oIt’s only an easy 5 min walk from the South Kensington tube station. The outisde has a lovely blue colour and looks very appealing. It’s not a very big restaurant, though they created quite a lot of seats. I like the interior. It’s light and I have the idea that it’s just been refurbished. When coming inside the friendly staff was welcoming me and letting me choose a seat. I could actually directly start after a short explaination.
You can eat from the buffet as much as you want for £9,50. Drinks and desserts are extra. Also they have a soup, this time asparagus soup with bread on the side, what you can get seperately as well for £5,50. I wasn’t crazy hungry (you’d think I wouldn’t go to an all you can eat buffet), so I filled only one plate. I made sure to taste everything, so it was a lovely colourful combination on my plate. They have all sorts of things: lentils, rice, beans, banana(very surprising and yummy), salads, pasta.. 12 differerent dishes in total! I think everybody can find something they like. What I really liked to read on their website is that the chef Ben Asamani is a committed vegan since he was a teenager and that he is running his own kitchen at various London restaurants for over 15 years. He just sounds very compassionate and devoted and that make the food even more delcious and special.

13446163_1168470283197073_935180156_oI just had a glass of water with my food, but you can also order delicious (freshly made) juices and smoothies. And I’m sure that if I had some space left in my tummy I would of ordered a tofu cheesecake (yes!). So I’ll leave that for the next time, as I’m sure I’ll come back here and take family and friends.

For the buffet you can go to 222Veggie Vegan from 12:00-15:30 and from 17:30-22:30 there is Dinner a la carte.
